06/01/2005 Attempt on Journo: Khulna newsmen demand security Our Correspondent, Khulna
Khulna journalists, concerned over Tuesday night's bomb attack on Dainik Jugantar Bureau Chief and a former leader of Khulna Union of Journalists, have asked police to step up security measures and demanded immediate arrest of criminals involved in the plan to kill journalists. Journalists in the press club meeting also condemned negligence of patrol police to nab the attackers. Dip Azad survived as the bomb that hit his back did not explode. The spot is near Moilapota polic box and patrol police were found unmoved when the bomb throwers ran away, eyewitnesses said. None including patrol police helped me when I chased the bomb throwers, said Mokhlesur Rahman Pintu, proprietor of AL Amin Pharmacy who was with Dip Azad during the incident. Dip Azad received death threats several times from Purbo Banglar Communist Party (Janajuddho) and New Biplobi Communist Party for writing on their terrorist activities. Journalists Manik Saha and Humayun Kabir Balu and police subedar Ashraf were killed by extremists in the city last year. http://thedailystar.net/2005/01/06/d50106011814.htm __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
