It sounds as if the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs is none too happy with the Iranian President either. Answering a question about reports on Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinezhad's statement of wiping Israel off the world map, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abu-al-Ghayt commented: Israel and Iran are two member states in the UN. The history of the organization since its establishment has neither witnessed nor recognized wiping out any of the member states. The foreign minister added that since the signing of Camp David accords and the peace treaty with Israel, Egypt had been doing its best for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the West Bank and Gaza Strip territories alongside the current state of Israel inside 1967 borders so that both countries would live in security and peace inside safe, stable recognized borders without any threat against any of them either at the external or regional level. He continues to slam Iran, closing with the commend "And then no one in this world will shed a single tear for Iran!" Such catastrophic statements are behind the tragedy that we live with every day. They portray Arabs and Muslims in the eyes of the world's public as bloodthirsty Nazis, but turn the villain, that is Israel, into a victim menaced by its malicious neighbors. They enrage the East and West against us, provide the justification for any attack, and give it the cover of legitimacy! More importantly, people in the Arab and Muslim world know that such statements are merely inflammatory or "jaw-cracking," as our Syrian fellows say! For Saddam did not scorch half or even a quarter of Israel, and when it comes to binary chemical weapons, well, he only used them against his own people, the Kurds. And his statements and foolhardiness did no good but scorched Iraq and placed it under occupation for an indefinite period! As for Iran, well, it did not fire a single bullet at Israel in any battle, nor did it dispatch a single soldier to fight against Israel in any war. On the contrary, during the days of the shah, Israeli tanks invaded Arab land with fuel imported from Iran. During the era of the Iranian revolution -- one of the grounds for which was the shah's relationship with Israel -- the regime of the mullahs contented themselves with staging gigantic demonstrations with chants of "Down with the United States and Israel." But they never lived up to their repeated promise to mobilize troops against the United States and Israel. Instead they mobilized them against Iraq in a mad war, which claimed the lives of 2 million Muslims in eight years. Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinezhad cannot wipe out Israel. However Israel, which is the proud possessor of 400 nuclear bombs, can in fact wipe out Iran and others. With his fiery statements President Ahmadinezhad managed to mobilize the world against Iran and its fledgling nuclear program, gave Israel a stronger case for its nuclear arsenal -- as a deterrent to his threats -- and gave legitimacy to any possible American or Israeli military attack on Iran's nuclear installations.
