US gangs shared hangout
31/01/2006 19:26 - (SA)

Miami - Police here discovered an abandoned warehouse they say was a "social
club" that gangs from across the United States used for shooting practice,
sex and beatings, the Miami Herald reported on Monday.

The warehouse, located near the runway of Homestead Air Reserve Base in
south Florida, has rooms for interrogations, target practice, sex and
beatings, the Herald reported.

One warehouse wall had gang-related graffiti typically found in New York and
Chicago. The graffiti had not been defaced or painted over - signs of a sort
of unity conference between gangs, said police.

Firefighters discovered the site on January 17 when military police reported
a fire on the site.

Days later police raided the site and found, among other things, a couch
with a blackboard above it that read "The Beating Couch", two separate rooms
with mattresses and discarded condoms, and a room with a large cage that
appeared to be for interrogations.

Police arrested five people and were checking them for gang links.

Police spokesperson Nilda Fonticiella said on Monday that police "don't want
to give any information as they're still investigating".
