Former President of Iran Mohammad Khatami, left, shares a word with
Senator from Massachusetts, USA, John Kerry during a session 'The Future
of the Middle East' at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland,
Saturday Jan. 27, 2007. The US has made wrong decisions in Iran’s case,
said John Kerry, George W Bush’s main rival in the last presidential
elections, told former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami on the
sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

LONDON, January 31 (IranMania) - The US has made wrong decisions in
Iran’s case, said John Kerry, George W Bush’s main rival in the last
presidential elections, told former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami
on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Speaking in Artists’ House at a ceremony to commemorate Tasua on Monday,
Khatami said John Kerry admitted that American politicians are incapable
of understanding Iran’s reality and, therefore, make wrong decisions,
IRNA reported.

“Kerry stressed that these mistakes boil down to the fact that
Washington does not know the nation that believes in ’Ali’ and
’Hussein’,“ he said.

Khatami then pointed to the lesson of Imam Hussein (AS) that even the
best and most virtuous of people do not have the right to impose
themselves on a nation and that those who govern should be elected by
the people.

He added that Imam Hussein (AS) and his honorable father Imam Ali (AS),
who remained silent for 25 years, only claimed power when people wanted
them to rule.

“Although virtuousness is valued, what people want is a must, in order
to rule a nation,“ he said.

The former president elaborated on the epic of Imam Hussein (AS) and
said, “Moments and decisions determine the destiny of mankind with
consequences.“

Imam Hussein’s (AS) decision to leave Medina, discontinue Haj and fight
the way he did is one of the most significant events of history.
Khatami called Imam Hussein (AS) “the commander of history“ for making
history.

“The purpose of his insurrection was to “promote virtue and prevent
vice“ and there is no vice as grave as tyrannical governments which
should be opposed by the greatest virtue: confronting evil,“ he said.

Khatami appreciated “Zohr-e Ashura“ the masterpiece of Mahmoud
Farshchian, contemporary miniaturist, which depicts the epic beautifully
and intricately combines good and evil.
