Arab, Gulf blood transfusion conference kicks off in Riyadh

RIYADH, Jan 30 (KUNA) -- The three-day sixth Arab and third Gulf blood
transfusion conference kicked off here Tuesday under patronage of King
Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Health Minister Dr. Hamad Al-Mane said in an opening speech at the
conference organized by the Arab Authority for Blood Transfusion
services that his country is keen on rendering up to date services to
both citizens and residents.

He said the Arab states are facing challenges of rendewring good health
services to the public; due to population growth, rise of chronic
diseases and accelerated deveopments of the medical practices whether at
the protective or diagnostic levels.

He said Saudi Arabia has stopped in 1985 the import of blood from abroad
with the aim of full control of all the blood transafusion phases
starting from the donors to the patients. (end) od.
