Russia's US-Anti-Missile System Placement Offer According to
"Gazeta", a top Russia's Foreign Ministry official
confidentially shared his suggestions that Bush-Putin telephone
conversation on last Wednesday is to lead to creating a multi-national
anti-missile system instead US-only-operated. "If threat could
originate from North Korea or Iran, using Russian territory is
reasonable, and why to refuse to?" He pointed at last year
Russia-NATO issue-related negotiations postponed because of then
eventual US willingness to keep a system by themselves. "Since Bush
and Putin have talked on Wednesday, we hear from a number of top US
officials of readiness to cooperate in deploying a common anti-missile
system", Russian VIP diplomat told. A day before, US Missile Defense
Agency Director, Lt. Gen. Obering, told Reuters, that "Anti-Missile
System will covered France, Germany, Italy – those all in need, and
a Western part of Russia". US representative to NATO, Ms. Victoria
Nuland said these negotiations might start at "Russia-NATO"
Summit session scheduled on 19April 2007. Non-official translation
