Kunduz Province

A combined Afghan and coalition force captured a Taliban leader and several
of his associates during a security operation in Kunduz district, Kunduz
province, yesterday.

The leader provided weapons and security for insurgents in Kunduz and was
responsible for attacks on multiple targets, including election sites in
September.

Based on intelligence reports, the combined force targeted a compound in the
district where suspected insurgent activity occurs. The force commenced
their search by isolating the compound and calling for all occupants to exit
the buildings. All individuals complied, allowing them to secure the safety
of the women and children.

While searching the area, the force discovered blasting caps, which are used
for homemade bombs, on two of the individuals. The force also found multiple
AK-47 rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade with components, chest racks and
multiple loaded magazines.

The targeted leader was identified, along with several additional
individuals with suspected ties to Taliban insurgency, and was detained for
further questioning.

numerous suspected insurgents during a security operation in Daman district,
Kandahar province, yesterday. The financier was responsible for transporting
weapons and homemade bomb materials, as well as funding Taliban cells.

Intelligence tips led the combined force to search the financier's suspected
compound in the district. The forces isolated and secured a series of
buildings. After calling all residents out of the buildings, the force
conducted interviews and continued their search. While searching, they
discovered an AK-47 assault rifle and several pistols. The financier was
identified and detained as a result of the interviews from residents.
Several of his associates were also detained for further questioning.

explosive devices in a compound. After several hour of observation, the
compound was destroyed with high-explosive rounds and an airstrike.

Logar Province

In Logar province, an Afghan and coalition force detained several suspected
insurgents while searching for a Taliban facilitator during a security
operation in Charkh district, Logar province, yesterday. The facilitator
assists with the coordination, execution and training of attack techniques
targeting Afghan and coalition forces.

with suspected ties to Taliban insurgency were detained for further
questioning. There were no shots fired during the operation.

Wardak Province

ISAF today confirmed the capture of a Taliban facilitator during a security
operation in Sayyidabad district, Wardak province, April 19. The facilitator
operated in Wardak province.

Khost Province

The International Security Assistance Force today confirmed three Haqqani
network leaders and several other insurgents were killed during a combined
Afghan and coalition security operation in Nadir Shah Kot district, Khost
province, April 22.

Among those killed was the senior Haqqani leader for the Nadir Shah Kot
district, Salih Khan. He directed explosive-device attacks, logistics and
communications for Haqqani insurgents operating in the area. Over the last
week, he led 20 fighters in two separate attacks on coalition forward
operating bases.

Salih Khan also directed homemade bomb fabrication training and worked with
other Haqqani leaders employing vehicle-borne explosive-device attacks
throughout the district.

Also killed during the operation was Salih Khan's deputy, Sarghai. He worked
alongside Salih Khan orchestrating attacks, most notably explosive-devise
attacks throughout the district.

The third insurgent killed was a Haqqani leader named Shamour, who was
co-located with the other two leaders in a remote compound. According to
intelligence reports, he was a trusted member in Khan's attack cell and was
responsible for explosive-device and small-arms attacks against Afghan and
coalition forces.

This year, Afghan and coalition forces have been able to disrupt multiple
planned attacks by targeting key Haqqani personnel. The combined force has
captured or killed more than 15 Haqqani leaders and over 130 Haqqani
insurgents since Jan. 1. More than 90 of these captures were in Khost
province.

The Haqqani network primarily operates in the Paktika, Paktiya and Khost
provinces. They are responsible for multiple high-level attacks against
Afghan government officials, as well as Afghan and coalition forces,
including a Dec. 5 suicide-bomb attack on a forward operating base. From
their traditional area of operations, multiple Haqqani fighters have led
efforts to disrupt Afghan government security efforts within Kabul.
