I would not see it so dramatically.
Elevation data is not supposed to be a guide for a blind man.

Better precission than 90m / 30m grid of SRTM is fine,
but OTOH extreme precission competes with needed resouces due data size.

BTW I use Austria OAM witjh LocusMaps.
