I thought of a simpler answer. I set out the route, and then just start
travelling without hitting “start”. That way the entire route stays displayed,
including the entire elevation profile, and my GPS location marker travels
along the route. Simple, and easier on the battery life 😊

And the GPX tracking seems to require a subscription. I’m new to this app, so
going to use the free version for my next trip, and then decide if I want to
upgrade. So far, I quite like it – more and better information than maps.me for
my purposes.

The simplest way is to use GPX tracking. You can start that manually, or set
the option to automatically record during navigation (per profile). I use both.

In that case it will show your route and a "trailing" GPX track. Also nice to
review that at home.

There are some more settings to make there: interval, distance between points
in case you have to wait "x intervals" in front of a traffic light, accuracy in
case you go through an area with limited GPX reception (a cycle tunnel?), etc.

When travelling along a route, the portion you've already covered simply
disappears from both the map and the elevation profile. Is there any way of
having the entire route displayed, and then your location marker simply travels
along it? I use OsmAnd and maps.me <http://maps.me> for cycle touring trips,
and it would be very helpful to be able to see both:

A) where I am along my route for the day (half way, 1/3, 3/4, nearly finished,
barely started...) and

B) what sort of hills are coming up and how do they compare to the hills I've
climbed already today?

None of the apps I've tried will allow me to see the elevation profile of the
entire route, only the part I haven't ridden yet. But for pacing purposes it
would be really helpful to see the route behind me as well as what's coming up,
so I can compare against some recent reference points.

So, does anyone know if there's a setting that allows for the continued display
of the part of the route / elevation profile that has already been covered? And
if not, is there any possibility of that feature being added? Self-propelled
travelers (hikers and cyclists) would be grateful.
