Hi,

The limit in terms of memory depends on the amount of available ram in your 
machine at the time of processing. Morphological profiles are very greedy in 
terms of memory and CPU.

You may try to use tiles of smaller size (vector mode instead of raster:  
"-mode.vector.tilesize").

About your problem number 2: I guess your computer turns off in order to avoid 
dying by getting too hot, but this is not OTB's fault ;)
