I am far from being the purist that Ron is, but this hits close to home and really pisses me off.  The thing that makes the maddest about this is that not only are they not trained in that area, they don't even use common sense to address those needs, the PTs I work with in home health think if a patient can transfer on and off a tub bench they can bathe.  For my clients, most of them are used to tub baths
( personally, I shower and never get down in water unless, but in my rural area, my clients' generation seems to favor tub baths.)  They feel cold with a shower.  There are a lot of new skills to learn when you need to bathe on a seat using a handheld shower, and one side of your body doesn't work right ( or whatever the dx is).  These PTs make me so mad when they "check out a transfer" (DRY no less) and think that covers it.  Except for my favorite PT - she is married to an OT, and she probably actually could do training in bathing, but her husband has the fear of the Lord in her and she always refers to OT.  -- Jody
