Isn't it our job as Occupational Therapists to screen and then make that
assessment?


I agree with your point because other referring professions are not trained in Occupation, so they may base their referral on the physical problem.  I see myself as a detective for every referral I get.  From my experience, I know that UE tightness may lead to a lot of occupational problems, so I will look for those problems in my assesment.  If I find no problems, I would probably train in some stretches and may issue orthotics if needed (in the same visit).  I see that as a wellness issue at that point.  I would be trying to prevent Occupational problems in the future.  Wellness is a growing field for OT right now!
