Hi Edward:

My own experience is that physical dysfunction offers more of a concrete path for first time OTs.  Psyche is a bit more abstract and depending on the setting chronic vs. acute can be stressful to the "new" therapist.  I think it depends on the school you attended.  Some schools encourage psyche and others encourage the new therapist to seek phys. dysf.  A great setting is one that allows you to rotate through various areas and you can find out what you like.  I worked in all the settings OTs can be found in and enjoyed each.  I did have areas of interest and can appreciate our role in all.  I hope this is helpful.  Best of luck, Maria in NYS

Hi! I'm just wondering, why is it that almost every OT students that I
know wants to pursue an OT career in physical dysfuntion settings rather
than in the psychiatric setting? And as for the professionals, i just
wanted to know some personal insights.
