I am always disappointed and saddened when I hear of students and schools weighing one type of setting vs. another. I know that OT's practice differently in different settings, however, in my mind I continually attempt to practice Occupational Therapy wherever I am, across the age spectrum and regardless of their impacting health or wellness. I work on an Acute Child and Adolescent Psych. unit and see myself as practicing Occupational Therapy, not Mental Health/Psych Occupational Therapy. I attempt to assess the individuals occupational performance and use my clinical judgment to determine what type of Frame of Reference (be it SI, Cog. Disability, Development, Behavioral, Bio-Mechanical...ect) to use.
