This isn't bad news. There is a learning curve, sure. But you have a lot of code examples from the current source. Plus I'd be more than happy to explain what I have learnt ( even if your system were properietory ). Any questions you have, I'm happy to try to answer.
If you agree to accept me in your community, my first help request is... an electronic copy of "Inside MAPI" - I've tried to buy it, but it really looks like it is no longer available anywhere!
I had a system to loan out copies of "Inside MAPI" in the past, but that proves to be difficult. The book is very, very expensive ( goes for about $250+ on Amazon marketplace ). I had a loaner copy that was donated, but that got lost. Unfortunately, we can not loan out the CD, or else we will get into trouble.
The MAPI book definitely makes things a lot easier. *But*, we can not use anybody's example source code! This is very important because we do not have a license to redistribute or to re-license the code. Please do not use the MAPI book's code, it is not compatible with the LGPL.
I will send out a brief status report soon, you should be able to see from there where you can start.
Finally, could you give a brief high-level description of what your project aims to do?
