Hi John, I was facing the same issue, the solution was rather simple, her a copy of answer / auto-response subject line: <OTRS_CUSTOMER_SUBJECT[24]> This includes the ticketnumber  + the  first 24  symbols  of the customers subject  in to the  subject of your/auto response.
