Jerome,
There are lots of choices - checkout www.bc.whirlpool.net.au
Whether she chooses cable or ADSL I would suggest she uses a router make the actual connection and then connects the iMac via ethernet. That way the connection is mac agnostic and the help desk script readers won't say - 'We are sorry we don't support that Apple' when the ISP has been too lazy to have someone prepare a help script.
Things to watch
only Telstra (the former monopoly telco) charges for both up and down traffic Telstra also owns 99.x% of the copper (last mile) so end up taking a cut even if you use another ISP for Internet. Cable has only limited area of coverage and there are only two cable providers (both owned by Telcos) in roughly the same service area. I use Optus - although the decision is a combination of ISp performance and cost as there are bundling discounts with landline and Pay TV.
I hope this helps

Doug

Hello all

I know there has been talk about Aussie ISP's in the past but I've not taken
much notice as I'm not in Aussie...

but now my daughter is there and looking at getting a new iMac and will want a good ISP... any comments about Mac friendly ones would be welcome... she is in Melbourne... and I guess sell will be after high speed connection of some sort. She does not have a land line (but the flat is wired up)- just
uses Vodafone cell phone for now...

thanks

Jerome
