I'm not completely clear on your placement of the reed switch. It seems as if 
you are using the reed switch to connect/disconnect the DS2423 from the 1-wire 
bus. Is that correct? Or is the 'no device'  unintended?

The only usage I've seen to date is with the DS2423 left on the bus and the 
reed switch used to toggle the counter inputs. By the way, the counter inputs 
have about a 28M ohm internal pull-up, so there should be an external pull-up 
on them.
