Interesting. It is possible the clamp meter that I have isn't even designed to measure DC current. I don't have the model number with me, but I am sure I didn't pay a heck of a lot for it.
In-line ammeter seems like the way to go to troubleshoot this. 1-Wire I have not forgotten you! There's no easy way to measure direct current especially very small values.
