Tell me more about how you envision using the Xbee devices.

Are you looking to have an owfs-like directory of Xbee devices, with properties represented as files?
YES

I am installing a large setup of 1wire devices in my house and a big issue is running the cables.
A friend has already asked to replicate my setup in his house, but running the cables there is almost impossible.
A wireless solution would be nice.

I am new to this list and I am wondering if in the past there has been
any discussion/effort to add support for wireless devices, for example
XBee radio are reasonably priced.
