The seller has agreed to refund the money, but it is still for sale on
amazon, I am not sure what to do.  Also many other pluscom cables are
for sale in various places so possibly many people are getting fake
cables.

Yes, I think that is certainly one factor.  I think that is why the
different pairs have different twists/metre.
