Paul, Tim
thanks a lot, that’s very kind!
I have spoken with the developers of that fascinating home control software
(named fhem), and they all agree that it would help a lot if it would return
undef.
Thanks for your work and your great modules!

looks like the perl script doesn't like the device disappearing (and I guess

I'll experiment with some protective coding. What would you consider the proper
response? The perl script ending, or just returning no data?

all,
I guess I got stuck with a problem I can't get sorted by myself, because of
limited expertise in perl.
Situation:
I'm using two Raspberry PIs, both running owserver.
The /etc/owfs.conf of the first one (Using DS2482-100 on RPi i2c Bus)
server: device = /dev/i2c-1 # i2c port: DS2482-100
http: port = 2121
ftp: port = 2120
server: port = localhost:4304
server: port = raspberry:4304
server: port = <http://192.168.1.18:4304> MailScanner warning: numerical links
are often malicious: 192.168.1.18:4304
Celsius
The /etc/owfs.conf of second one (Using a DS2408 via FTDI USB/RS232)
server: device = /dev/ttyUSB0
http: port = 2121
ftp: port = 2120
server: port = <http://192.168.1.25:4304> MailScanner warning: numerical links
are often malicious: 192.168.1.25:4304
Celsius
I'm running fhem home automation software on the first RPi, collecting
sensor data from its own sensors and the second RPi with some more sensors.
All connected via wired ethernet.
Problem:
Quite often the second RPi freezes without any (for me) visible reason,
causing the software querying owserver also getting stuck with the error
message
Can't call method "fileno" on an undefined value at
/usr/share/fhem/FHEM/lib/OWNet.pm line 381
The program on the first RPi also gets stuck, in case I have to reboot the
second RPi. I'm trying to figure out what might be wrong for a couple of
days now, and thought it might be best to ask the experts for their
assessment.
Can you help me out?
BR
