I think what you need for a proper solution is an owfs frontend for Oww. You could perhaps ask about it in the 1-wire list at http://www2.buoy.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/weather (unless Simon also reads this list). I switched from Oww to owfs many years ago. I only used Oww to get the log files, so I wrote my own software giving me similar log files, but now using owfs and supporting things that you can't do in Oww like multiple wind instruments and multiple adapters + whatever I found useful. You can download it from http://voksenlia.net/met/src/owfslog.c if you think you can use it. Run it with -h to get some basic help.
