"Shim" -- sorry if it's obscure.
It's a term taken from carpentry, I think, a small piece of wood inserted
to make things fit together.
In software it's usually a compatibility component that allows dissimilar
protocols to work together.
In this case, OWW expects to talk to a bus master directly. OWFS presents
it's data on a higher level -- I.e., it gives you the temperature, and
doesn't expose the actual byte commands.
An analogy would be a disk controller. Having two disk controllers working
on the same disk is dangerous, so virtual machines provide a simulation of
a disk. That's what we would need to do.
