Hi,

The RPMs for owncloud-client 1.2.3 for SLC6 / RHEL / CentOS are available here:

Cool, thanks a lot. Do you plan to provide these one-shot or on the longer run? In this case, it would make sense to subscribe to the [email protected] list, to get packaging related information in time.

Qt client evolution: for Qt 4.8 it should possible to work it out for us. For
Qt 5 it would be much more problematic. Jarek (CC) has more details.
Yes, we're not planning to go with Qt5 in forseeable future.

Hello,

just as a heads-up: We are about to drop support for Desktop platforms with Qt
4.6 for the ownCloud client, since it limits us considerably. This affects
Debian 6 and RHEL/CentOS 6. For Debian it's not a problem, since Debian 7 will
hopefully declared stable soon, but I see no such remedy for RHEL, since RedHat
probably won't update Qt within the RHEL lifecycle. This means that in order to
keep RHEL 6 supported, we would need to find some way to ship Qt 4.8 along.

Is there a significant amount of people using RHEL/CentOS on the client side?

We are currently only evaluating and testing owncloud for CERN use and hence
there is no production service and users depending on it.

Otherwise, we are talking about ~5K users on site and ~10K users worldwide.
RHEL is probably 30% of it (just a guess).

I have forwarded your comments on Qt / RHEL to our experts to see what they
think about it.

Best regards,

Hello,

Thanks for the hints. I am by no means expert in packaging, however, friendly
people at CERN are and they have built the rpm for slc6 (redhat 6) with Koji
and SLC build systems using Fedors 18 srpm as a source.
We are currently testing it and will give it back to community as soon as we
can.

Hi,

I am looking for owncloud-client 1.2.3 RPM (or source RPM to build locally)
for RHEL (or CentOS-6 which would do fine).

Unfortunately the SUSE system does only have the old client for this platform
(http://software.opensuse.org/package/owncloud-client). Since the release schedule is
very agile I don't find these in "standard" sources (rpmfind etc).

I am not so familiar with the build/distribution process of owncloud, so I
would appreciate some pointers… Who is actually packaging this and how is this
triggered?

We are building the client in the Open Build Service, what you named the "SUSE
system". Unfortunately the RHEL build currently fails, yet that probably could be
fixed. It's just a matter of doing it. [2] gives more information on how to collaborate.

So if you might be experienced in packaging, especially on the RHEL platform, we
would appreciate some help. There is a mailinglist
[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> which discusses packaging
topics, you can join via [1].

Klaas
