No, symlink is not an option. The data must go to another disk and the old one shouldn't have anything to do with it anymore.

I did a new installation, now. I just wanted to hear it from somebody else, before I do so work.

If not you can change the data dir and trigger a rescan using occ files:scan --all

In this case the clients will do a full resync.
There will remain zombie dataset in the database but we can clean this afterwards. (I have some sql script for this somewhere - I'll post this as soon as I find this again ;-) )
