I've just taken a look, and can't find the separated out source for the spell checker any more. (It's embedded in a large suite of tools.)
Actually, I don't think it would be much use to you. Looking at it, it is largely written in JavaScript to run on a web page. It wasn't difficult, if I recall correctly. Obviously, applicability depends on target audience, and it was written at the time of Word 2003 and IE 6 (though it still seems to function.)
