i own one of these:

sure, its getting bigger (13.3inch) but it weights 1.6kg and is slim and powerful enough to run Visual Studio okay, $495 is good too i definitly paid more than that, perhaps $799 from memory.

i know the OP said just word/excel but this runs all them better than a notebook as well as websites and video etc etc, a fair enough trade-off (for me) given the slightly extra size.

Even a current netbook will be fine for 99% of internet/Word/Excel IMHO

However, the smaller the machine, the more cramped the keyboard. 10" is a minimum
(and uncomfortable IMGO) and 11" would be better.

Pay attention to screen resolution as well. Trying to do anything in Excel on a
low res screen will be a nightmare.

Thanks though I'm not into the tablet thing. The only tablet I've seen
worth even considering is the iPad and that costs too much for me. I'm
just after a cheap netbook $200-$400 max.

Go with an 11inch older model notebook. U can get an HP pavilion for under $400
at Harvey Norman or JB. Even the newer model is only a bit over $400. You will
find these snappier than the under-powered 10inch netbooks

Tablet + bluetooth keyboard?

G'day

I'm after a 10-11 inch netbook/notebook which I will probably only
use for internet, occasionally working on word or excel and of
course I need a keyboard which is why a tablet won't do. I want
something cheap so no ultrabooks or anything like that..

I realise most netbooks are about the same so was more after any
issues people here have had with them and which ones to avoid if any.
