very wise post, Stuart. hopefully those who have not been burnt will take
note and put in the extra research.

I've had a number of different brands, Dell being one. My best after sales
experience has been with them. had an over heating grapics card which parts
could were hard to get (6 week wait). so they replaced my whole laptop with
a newer model (an Alienware! with equal or better specs).
Always get the maximum warranty that you can. it did take a while but you
can tell with Dell its not a half hearted after thought, its a well
executed system.
