Ah thanks for that news. And coincidentally, two nights ago I installed
Ubuntu server by accident and was a bit shocked to discover it boots up
with nothing but a command prompt (but I should have expected something
like that). An hour later I installed the desktop version and it's all
running nicely and I can see my Windows shares. I've installed VS Code, but
haven't compiled or deployed any .NET Core stuff yet, which is a job for
coming weeks and why I'm doing all this as practise.

Linux sure is lighter and cheaper overall, but it's harder to get immediate
technical answers to everything due to the different culture and jargon.
