Dear Kerry
My understanding from meetings and submissions in WA is that all state and
national health legislation has to come in line with Trade Practices, Trans
Tasman and Mutual Recognition agreemnets.
All of which can be tools for change to more midwifery services!!!
Here in WA the Health Department wants legilation and regulations including
working of boards of all health professions to fit a template of the
Osteopaths bill here.
The submission ACMI-WA and other midwives made pointed out some difficulties
of making the WA Nurses Act fit a template developed for a narrower health
profession. Also the submissions made points in favour of seperate Midwfery
legislation and board to meet the Trans Tasman and Mutual recognition
requirements.
