In our Birth Centre in London UK the midwives are the same midwives who also
do home births and hospital births. However they are not specifically
attached to any of those - they are attached to a woman so the woman makes
the choice of where to have her baby and her midwife takes her there (or in
the case of home birth - goes there).
In the Birth Centre we have a Key worker who cleans, cooks, prepares food,
arranges flowers, receives people, shows people round, does shopping and
laundering and makes sure the Birth rooms have everything in them.

Our Birth Centre is near a hospital - in the grounds but not actually part of
the hospital. We have three Birth Rooms (all containing Birth Pools) and two
Consulting rooms. As well as these we have a sitting room, kitchenette,
laundry room and staff lavatory - all the Birth rooms have an en-suite
lavatory.

In the Birth rooms we also have a sofa which turns into a double bed if
needed.

Best wishes - Caroline Flint
