"Meddling with people's minds" ???

The word "reframing" popped up in another context last week and I think this
is exactly what hypnobirthing and many other childbirth approaches actually
do, but in numerously different ways. "Reframing" was actually a term coined
by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in their theories on Neuro-Linguistic
Programming ("Neuro-Linguistic Programming and the Transformation of
Meaning"). I'm sure is entirely possible for a woman to reframe her birth
pains to the point that she doesn't define it as "pain". The subconscious
works in not so mysterious ways, not so mysterious example: how quickly we
forget our labour pain.

I have read the hypnobirthing books and scripts but I have never hypnobirthed
nor ever attended a "hypno-birth" but I absolutely believe in it's
effectiveness. Myself, I've practised yoga for years and believe I may have
naturally "hypno-birthed" only under a different skill-set if you know what I
mean. I think we all naturally hypno-birth when we're in the right
environment, safe, supported and of sound mind. This is just another method
that gives women access to the skills to endure childbirth more comfortably.
There's nothing suspicious about it at all. There is no "meddling" going on!
