BTW - related question about x86 crypto features: what is the preferred way to
utilize the Ivy Bridge RDRAND instruction from an application?

Should the GnuTLS/libtomcrypt/OpenSSL/... library authors assume that the user
is already running rngd in the background to seed the kernel's /dev/random
pool?  Or would it be better to integrate RDRAND support right into the
library?

Fedora's rng-tools package is up to date, but Debian and Ubuntu are using an
old fork which lacks RDRAND support.
