I think I found and fixed the problem. It finally stopped with errors after 80 some minutes.
Turns out I did not properly set the hostname of the system, which involved also rebooting after setting it. Once I did that and confirmed that it still matched the name in the cluster.conf file, the "pfcmd configreload hard" command completed immediately with the usual errors about the database. root@pf1:/usr/local/pf/conf# /usr/local/pf/bin/pfcmd configreload hard Could not write namespace resource::cluster_servers() to L2 cache !
