I think I know why I couldn't get your solution to work (I haven't tested my
theory), it's because the shipped allowed_device_oui.txt file is a copy of the
allowed-gaming-oui.txt, in other words there must be allowed_device code
elsewhere that was kicking in, i.e. rejecting any MAC I put in except the
white-listed gaming OUI's in allowed_device_oui.txt.

Aha! That's what I've been looking for.
Had I better eyesight, perhaps I would have noticed the 2 similarly but
different filenames, i.e. allowed_device_oui.txt and allowed-gaming-oui.txt.
