I'll throw out a couple of things not mentioned yet.
Codewarrior vs. GCC: (from a Windows platform view)
Pro:
C++ supported.
POSE / Debugger integrated nicely (already mentioned).
Integrated Development Environment.
The Metrowerks folks seem responsive to problems reported in this forum.
Cons:
Very Mac-ish (but getting better).
No command line support (for builds and such).
Bugs always seem to get addressed "in the next release", the you have to
pay for<g>! (I'll probably take a beating for that statement, but it's the
way I feel)
