8.2 I cannot establish communication with the Palm OS device when using the
debugger. I get "Failed to Connect to Remote" message or nothing at all. I'm
sure the device is entering debug mode correctly. What should I check?
When you are debugging, you need to make sure of three things:
a) Make sure you don't have the HotSync background process active at the
same time as you are debugging. You must exit HotSync monitor before
launching the debugger. To exit HotSync on a PC right-click on the HotSync
icon in your System Tray and select exit from the menu. To stop HotSync on a
Mac open the HotSync control panel and make sure the pane labeled "HotSync
Status" says "HotSync serial port monitoring is off." Click the Stop button
if it does not. Note that some users report on their configurations they
must Quit HotSync before ever using it in order to use the debugger
properly. In other words, if they have used HotSync previously to using the
debugger (even if HotSync is now Quit) they must restart the computer and
immediately quit HotSync to use the debugger.
b) Make sure the debugger preferences are set correctly. Make sure the COM
port in the debugger preferences matches the actual port that the cradle is
connected to.
c) Make sure no other application is trying to use the same communication
port. Try to change to communication port (remember to move the cradle to
the new port as well) and see if that other port works.
