I don't like shareware that quits completely after the 30 days.

I would rather it stay somewhat functional for demonstrational purposes.

I test a lot of shareware. It is fine for them to warn me that it is
unregistered.

What I don't like is when the program quits completely after it is expired.
I have shareware for demonstration purposes to show others who don't have
access to shareware. When it completely quits then that prc is not an option
to show anyone anymore.

When I see a shareware that I want to use, not just show others, then I will
register it.

hi!

it is amazing how this thread just keeps coming back :)) the archives
have all the information you need about the discussion of registration
  techniques..

as a user, the last thing i want is a nag every time i open the
progra - so i just write 'UNREGISTERED' on the main page when
the program is not registered. when the person plays around with
the program long enough (i write games, so when they get to around
100 points or so) i bring up a dialog, basically saying:

---
     Congratulations!

Your evaluation has expired :(

Do you want to play more?
     Support Shareware!

     Register XXXX at:
  http://www.palmgear.com/
    (userID is required)
---

they can play the game again, but once they get to 100 points
it stops the game and shows this message.

it is not a true NAG, if they are good enough to get 100 points,
and they want to get more - they buy it :)

leaving bits and pieces on the device wont help - people can remove
the databases using some of the utilities that are available :)
just dont be an ass about registrations.. they will come regardless
how you do it - just make the experience enjoyable for the user!

  cheers.
