Let me jump in here.
Handspring's current policy upgrades is that there will be patches loaded in RAM
to trap OS function calls. They _may_ be distributed via Springboard Flash
modules but the patches will be transvered from the module into the Visor. You
will not need the Springboard module in the slot to have the patches run.

If your app requires 3.3, the OS patch could be done by the Setup application in
the Flash of the Springboard module. When the module is removed, the patches
could be removed along with it.

There are no current plans for a multislot Springboard device that I know of
right now.
