Yes, you've missed the fact that the serial communications manager in OS 3.0
and 3.1 has been replaced with the New Serial Manager in OS 3.3 and 3.5.
I'd recommend that you enroll as a seeding developer and start using the 3.5
SDK. The New Serial Manager is quite well documented there.
The Enhanced IR Update contains updated system libraries for the old serial
manager. You can still install it under OS 3.3 in order to use the old
system calls, although this isn't really a clean solution.
I feel that Palm hasn't been really attentive towards us hobbyist
programmers. I'm doing SH888 programming myself and had to put my GPL
project on ice for eight months (!) while Palm sorted out their SDK issues.
Let's face it: unless you're a seeding developer, you're stuck with SDK 3.0
and the old serial manager.
