I had seen this same behavior with my Palm V doing IR hotsync to a
PowerBook G3. I also develop GSM software and use the V with IR equipped
phones (Ericsson and Motorola). Not sure how or why that would screw things
up, but I can confirm the same thing happening to me.

Since you are using PC and I am using Mac, the problem more likely lies in
Palm OS or the IRComm driver.

(Also I noticed a pin reset of the V always fixed the slowdown problem).
