You might try posting this question on the Symbol Forum, actually...
one of the Symbol engineers has been posting and reading it lately.

You're right, though, my SPT 1700/1740 has a nifty little Hotsync app
that comes preloaded into the Symbol flash, where you just tap a 
button control object and the Hotsync starts right up.
