It sounds as though you also need the ability to return from HotSync to your
application (otherwise, after the sync finishes, the user will be left in
HotSync and can leave that application and go to any other application).
What I'd do is this:
Set an alarm for 5 seconds from now.
Launch HotSync app telling it to sync (in ways that others have already
discussed.
During the sync, no alarms will be processed, but after the sync
finishes, alarms will be sent.
Handle the alarm by relaunching your app
It's a little ugly, but is the best approach I've found.
