Microsoft has been talking about that for awhile with all of their
OS's. The problem would be backward compatibility issues, I'd think.

Not if those apps actually utilize their own internal preferences database
or whatnot to store information. Its usually easy to do...and it's a
recommended practice with Palm apps.

Like there are for the Palm? All kinds of app launchers there...just
check out PalmGear. They're actually kind of fun to do, especally when
you're playing with UI elements.

You can buy yourself a Palm Vx, outfit it with an OmniSky modem, and
still spend less sometimes.

Nope, more like tables. Palm's HAS records and fields. From a programmer's
perspective, you write your structure, add in the appropriate fields where
needed, and you have a record. Then, you add the record into your database.
You search it with an API call. Not that hard to do, really...heck, I can
add records into other application's databases in order to provide a
highly seamless and simplified solution.
If you're looking for a nice PDA, though...Sony's got one coming out
that'll be really nice. The only thing that's irritated me is that they've
provided really lousy support for their developers so far. It looks like
they've registered the jog dial and memory stick capability, so that will
be interesting, if they'll ever let us all help them market it by supporting
the dev community a little better.
