3.5.3 flashes the OS?

Does it do a -complete- replacement of the OS ... that is, can
I update to 3.5.3 from 3.3 ... or do I have to flash to 3.5.0 first,
then to 3.5.3?

Finally: can 3.5.3 fit in a PIII flash, or is it too big now?
