I thought I understood databases; until I tried to write one....
First, if anyone has some "pull" with the webmaster, the Programming Recipe for databases has enough errors that it should be either completely reworked, or just deleted. It is causing a lot more confusion than it is fixing.
I have a lot of pull with the webmaster... however, I'd like specific feedback on what was confusing about the DB recipe. Did you read that chapter on databases in the "Palm OS Companion" book that's part of the Palm OS SDK?
Second, is there a good tutorial on databases someplace? Doesn't have to be at Palm; a third party book would be OK, as long as it is really functional.
The Neil Rhodes book has plenty of good material on Palm OS DBs.
Third, and my immediate problem, if you create a database that doesn't have a dedicated conduit yet, can it be backed up to the PC? If so, how? I know that I have nine records, but I'm not completely sure that they are in a database. A HotSync did not transer the records. So, what happened?
If a DB has the "backup" flag set, it will be copied by the backup conduit to a PDB file in the user's Palm Desktop folder.
