Oh, they have their own dedicated Web sites, IRC channels, mailing lists and what not - which are dedicated to the subject of virus writing. (On that subject, I'm of the opinion that such protection is useless - it's always crackable and somebody will crack it sooner or later. If you have to provide a restricted version of your program, it is better to have two versions - a restricted one that is free and doesn't expire but doesn't have the features of the real one - and a real one that has everything. If the demo version simply doesn't *have* the additional code compiled in it, a cracker cannot "unlock" it. At best, they will have to pirate the real version; that's at least marginally easier to protect.) When my anti-virus application is ready, I'll provide it for free - but I wouldn't release its source; that would make it way too easy for the virus writers to attack it. > Personally, I don't think that what Roger said was rude. He doesn't know me at all, he has no idea what strong ethical code most people of my profession subscribe to, yet he was quick to imply that I am somehow manipulating the society, in order to create a market for my product. And, honestly, I am sick and tired of this "all you money-grubbing AVers are making all the viruses, so that you can sell your products" crap! My PalmOS application will be free. The Windows product of our company sells for just two bucks per machine per year, ferkrissake! We work routinely 14 hours per day, we have to fight not just the virus writers but the idiots at Microsoft and reverse-engineer the idiotic file formats of their monstrous applications because they haven't bothered to document them and can't get their act together to provide us the documentation, we're overwhelmed by the constantly increasing flood of viruses every damn day, we have to help people who don't know where the "any" key is with complex security problems over the phone - and *this* is what we get as a whole gratitude?! Why don't people accuse the policemen that they are causing all the crime? Why aren't people accusing the physicians that they are spreading the diseases?
