You can't safely downgrade in any particular slot of a package providing a shared library, although sometimes you get lucky if you try. When the package in question is something like glibc, it's almost certainly not going to work. Instead, you should fix whatever it is that makes you think that -r3 won't let your system boot. I doubt that glibc is the real problem. -- Ciaran McCreesh
