I appreciate the suggestion. And "seem to work" is it.

But when using right handed scissors (when you look down on the blades, 
the blade on the left goes down as you open them), no matter the handle 
configuration, I wind up holding the work in my right hand at the right 
side of my body, the scissors in my left hand also at the right side of 
my body, pointed away from me so that I can see the line I'm trying to cut.

Try it.
